Brotherly are soul-mates Anna Stubbs (vox) and Robin Mullarkey (multi-instrumentalist). Together they write quirky extended songs which belong on the dancefloor and yet constantly reference the rich jazz background that they had each acquired as gigging musicians in 90s/00s London. The earliest release "A Little Trouble" gained interest as a standout track from Hospital's Outpatients 3, and Put It Out was a very popular track at the Co-Op club and throughout the brokenbeat community. The long awaited debut LP "One Sweet Life" answers a lot of questions about who Brotherly are, and shows them to be an exciting and intriguing project, as yet still in it's youth.
Feel-good music. Feel-bad music. Feel-a-bit-disoriented-and-nauseous music. Meaningful and sincere music.
Press: Straight No Chaser - "a sonic blueprint, guaranteed to feed that holy trinity - your mind body and soul" Echoes magazine - "a brilliant debut, a zestful yet mature delivery of cutting edge black music" 4.5/5 Blues & Soul - "a heady concoction that will intrigue and inspire" 4/5 Metro - "itchy future jazz, bumpy funk and smooth soul stylings collide with pleasing results" 1 Week to Live - "One Sweet Life is awesome" "it's a gloriously jazzy journey through masterfully crafted broken beats laced with beautiful harmonies"
