It started off innocently in 1999 somewhere in Washington, D.C. where two cats who were hip to future soul, broken beat, nu-jazz, etc. "jumped" me into the game [only the music didn't have these established titles back then]. It evolved into playing beats as a dj. If you want to know more, ask.
